Stuck in the middle

I often float between wanting to appear to be well-dressed and classic, in a Banana Republic kind of way, and wanting to be an indie princess who wears stuff found on Etsy or in unique boutiques. The problem with both of these is that they require more money than I have to spend. I also think I don't really fit into either category so I think I'd be a poseur if I fully embraced one over the other.

I tend to think of myself as an enigma...I know that I visually appear to be a "girl next door type", what with the freckles, pale skin, and giggle, but I've been known to open my mouth to uncover a (at times) biting wit and streak of sarcasm that either makes people laugh or makes people offended. I always feel like when people meet me they think I listen to country music, like kittens, enjoy chick flicks, and always try to catch the bouquet at weddings. I could totally be exaggerating here, but that's the vibe I get when I meet new people. Depending on the context I'm meeting the person in, I sometimes allow them to think all these things (only one of them is really true, another marginally true, and the other two are totally false) because trying to debunk the myths can get to be exhausting.

Does anyone else feel a total disconnect between the impression they give people and their real personality?

Yes, I often have this style problem too. I like too many things, and I don't have enough money to go buy all the fun fashion I want, so I end up looking rather plain jane most of the time. I also often surprise people a lot by not being "cute" all the time. But, if people don't take the time to get to know you, then that's their problem, not yours.

Sorry to debunk your myth, but when I met you...you were getting low to the skeet, skeet, skeet song. There was nothing "girl next door" to it. At all! I haven't gotten over it since.
